Smokey Fall Fashioned Cocktail with Halen Mon Smoked Water

Smokey Fall Fashioned Cocktail with Halen Mon Smoked Water
This twist on an autumn classic incorporates a product that is taking the culinary world by storm…Oak Smoked Water from Halen Mon! Instead of using a single malt scotch, simply add smoked water to your bourbon or rye cocktails for a smokey flavor. Halen Mon already did the smoking so you don’t have to. The best way to use smoked water in a cocktail is to freeze it as ice – that way it doesn’t dilute the drink or make it too watery. The smoke will show up in a perfect amount!

INGREDIENTS (makes one fall fashioned)

  • 2 oz. of your favorite bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 2 tsp. of maple syrup for sweetener (optional)
  • dash of Angostura bitters (or bitters of your choosing)
  • 1 orange peel
  • 1 brandied cherry
  • silicone ice tray
  • Halen Mon Oak Smoked Water
  • muddler
  • rocks glass
  • cocktail shaker
  • strainer

PREPARATION

A few hours in advance, you will want to freeze the smoked water into a large ice cube using your silicone ice tray. These “rocks” are larger than normal, and you will only need one per drink. If you only have regular sized ice cubes, that’s fine too! When ready, lay out your bar tools so everything is in front of you.

Place the cherry, orange peel, bitters, and maple syrup in your shaker. Muddle well with your muddler. Pour the whiskey in with everything, and shake gently. Strain everything over your big rock in a rocks glass (if you’re using smaller rocks, you can pour everything including the rocks into your rocks glass without straining). Garnish with new fruit if you would like.
